An anecdote about the origin of ‘the sulking room pink’: my friend’s mum informed me that the colour pink I’d been using was often the shade of the wallpaper in the room used for overwhelmed housewives to cry in. Although the historical context of a sulking room is extremely repressive and problematic, I applied myself to the concept of creating a room tailored to experiencing emotion. My sulking room was a dulled, placid, dark hospital green. Above it, there is a car crash of emotional debris; crash material, the flotsam and jetsom of energetic and psychic pain and purgatory. In this room the uncontainable is contained.
