Autumn is followed by Winter is a piece about the nature of human relationships with our environment. A central spiral gives way to a vortex of potential and is juxtaposed by the accoutrements of office life set in the confines of the four walls of corporate routine. Thinking about this piece, one learns to find a certain comfort in two apparently opposed ideas: stasis and exploration. The chair spinning on wheels plastic and puny in the grand scheme of life represents the potential for change in all of us, it teeters on the verge of the unknown and threatens to tip in. Change is inevitable, and as surely as Winter follows Autumn, Spring is just around the corner. An office chair may be comfortable or electric depending on how close that change is, a room can be safe or a prison, it is only by entering the unknown that we learn which is which.  And so, with this piece, I have attempted to address the cycle of change inherent in making our lives and our world a more interesting place.
