She is set between petroglyphs from noa’s iwi, Ngāpuhi, before their migration to Aotearoa took place. Hina glides through the complex arrangement of lines. Her passage is unfettered by her divine authority. Tinirau, Guardian of Fish, watches on from below in awe from Hina’s beauty. This painting is an ode to mana wāhine (Māori feminism), who bestow us with life.
